Specialised logistics and healthcare waste management is the Ahona Group’s differentiating offer to the healthcare ecosystem in Chile. This is explained by its General Manager, Pamela Schwerter, who points out that ‘we are a supplier with a customised approach, that is to say, “tailor-made” for companies in the health sector that need to get their products to the end point, whether it is a clinic office or a hospital underground’. ‘Through our subsidiary Ahona Logistics, we meet the specific and urgent needs of our customers in the healthcare ecosystem. We are the only logistics operator that offers 24/7 dispatches, from Monday to Sunday, with national coverage, with delivery times of 3 hours in Santiago and 17 hours in the regions’, says the executive. The specialised health logistics service is carried out under strict safety and temperature protection conditions. Pamela Schwerter asserts that health logistics allows planning, executing and monitoring the mobilisation of essential resources with speed and precision, considering their storage, transport and distribution. ‘Efficient logistics in this area not only generates benefits, but also has a significant social impact: it makes it possible to provide quality and safe healthcare to the population, helping to reduce mortality and morbidity rates, among other effects,’ she adds. Waste management in healthcare According to Pamela Schwerter, waste management in healthcare must be addressed throughout the life cycle of medical devices, medicines and medical devices, ‘in the context of the growing concern for environmental impact and public health, especially after the implementation of the REP Law’, she points out. Through Ahona Gestión de Residuos, the Ahona Group offers the service of destruction of medical equipment, as well as the destruction, disposal and shredding of medicines. ‘The implementation of the REP Law has marked a before and after, forcing health institutions to adapt their internal procedures to comply with the standards of segregation and temporary storage of waste in the category of containers and packaging,’ adds the general manager of the Ahona Group. The executive emphasises that ‘it is important for companies in the health sector not only to comply with current regulations, but also to adopt a proactive approach to sustainability’.
