Brain Treatment Center Chile was born in 2020 with the deep conviction that, through the power of neuroscience and technology, we can transform lives, giving people and their families a new opportunity. It is the first centre in Latin America to bring MeRT Therapy from the United States, a neuromodulation therapy that combines repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) with a deep and personalised analysis of each patient’s brainwaves. This non-invasive, painless and drug-free therapy uses pulsed magnetic fields to induce changes in neural activity, which can lead to a reduction of symptoms in various conditions such as anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, head injury, autism and its spectrum, among others. Since 2008, the technology has been approved by the FDA to treat resistant depression, and since then, it has continued to gain new approvals such as OCD, chronic pain and substance abuse among others. What is MeRT therapy? The process begins with an electroencephalogram to assess the electrical activity of the brain, which provides a detailed picture of the patient’s brain function. Once the data is obtained, it is sent to a specialised laboratory in California, where it is analysed to design a unique treatment protocol, tailored to the specific needs of each individual. BTC Chile’s CEO, Mikael Gayme, and Dr. María José Arroyo, a clinician at the centre, will participate on Tuesday 10 September at 10:50 hrs in the panel on ‘Mental health, public policies and research’, where they will show the experience of this therapy for more than 300 patients in Chile and 26,000 around the world. ‘We will show how transcranial magnetic stimulation has helped certain conditions such as depression and anxiety, and how today our laboratory in the United States has submitted FDA approvals for post-traumatic stress disorder and ECT. In addition, we want to highlight in our participation in the panel, the importance of incorporating medical engineering in our processes, which has been enhanced thanks to the use of artificial intelligence,’ says Mikael Gayme, CEO of BTC Chile. Visitors to Expo Salud will be able to see the technology and equipment used to perform MeRT therapy and how it works in situ at stand 114, located in the central hall.
